What Motorcycle GPS Mount is Right for You?

As a motorcycle enthusiast, there are many avenues through which you can recreate, and many areas you can go that are quite pleasant and memorable. Getting to and from those areas, however, has spawned a need for assistance. GPS units are quite versatile, but simply grabbing your car GPS unit and taping it to your handlebars will not make your driving experience more pleasant, especially if it rains. What options are the most important for motorcycle GPS units?

GPS units abound for cars and RV’s and other applications, but the market for motorcycle friendly units is relatively new; water resistance is a must, glove friendly screens are positive, battery life needs to be addressed, and sunlight glare avoidance cannot be discounted. With that said, there are currently two GPS units which have been manufactured specifically for motorcycle use (this review will not consider portable GPS units as a viable option for motorcycles, primarily due to screen size and an inconsistent application of the Bluetooth feature). Both units have bluetooth capability, which is important for audible directions, glove friendly screens, as taking off a glove while cruising at 70 mph may be a tad inconvenient, and battery/DC charging available. Screen color for both is brilliant, and glare-resistant. Both motorcycle GPS units have a 3.5 inch screen. WIFI has not been considered yet for these units.

GPS units have expanded in scope and application steadily since their inception, and this addition is a welcome change for motorcycle enthusiasts. In finalizing a GPS decision, one must always note their preferences, and make suggestions to manufacturers if their ideals are not met with the current product line. Innovation is a cornerstone of any successful market niche.
