Bingo Superstitions

Superstitions occur in just about any facet of your life. Whether it traditional superstitions such as avoiding walking under a ladder or more individualized, superstitions abound. Many bingo players also hold various superstitions relating to their favourite game of choice.

As with most sports or games, bingo players superstitions sometimes relate to various rituals that they believe must occur in order to provide them with the ultimate amount of luck. These rituals might include homoeopathic ones where the person believes ingesting certain herbs or applying essentials oils can turn the tides in their favour. Perhaps the ritual could even include the meal eaten prior to the bingo outing. Maybe in the past, the player had good luck following a certain meal and turned that into their own personal ritual. Other rituals might include sitting at a certain table or seat within the bingo hall.

Other bingo superstitions centre on objects. These objects are talismans that provide the holder with luck. While many people might commonly carry lucky coins, rabbits’ feet or four-leaf clovers, the array of objects carried into bingo halls does not end there. Some people may have icons or photographs of loved ones that they believe hold some special significance for them. Still others might bring in stuffed animals as lucky charms. Teddy bears are quite common sights in some bingo halls. Some bingo players even have what they call their “lucky dauber” and habitually bring it to the club. Other bingo dauber superstitions might centre around the colour of the dauber or even a particular shape that is daubed on the bingo card.

Numbers also hold a great deal of superstition for bingo players. Some players have determined a lucky number or perhaps a set of lucky numbers. These numbers could be formed from their birthday or wedding anniversary. Some many use the birthdays or ages of their children or other family members. Some bingo players simply regard certain numbers as lucky because they have one big with them before. When they receive their bingo cards and feel that the numbers are unlucky, they may trade the card in for a different one.
